Event Recap: Historic Preservation in a Changing City

On February 20, 2025, CultureWorks Greater Philadelphia hosted Historic Preservation in a Changing City, an engaging and thought-provoking discussion on the complexities of preserving Philadelphia’s historic and cultural sites amid rapid development.

Philadelphia’s rich history is woven into its architecture, cultural landmarks, and community-driven cultural spaces. However, as the city undergoes massive change, many historic sites—particularly those tied to Black history and underrepresented communities—face neglect, disrepair, and threats of demolition. This event brought together preservationists, cultural leaders, and community members to examine these challenges and explore solutions that honor the past while shaping a more inclusive future.
